Rocks and Sticks Guidelines
Lesson Objective:
To provide students with an activity that promotes cardio vascular activity, anaerobic sprinting, hand-to-eye coordination, team skills practice.
Objective of the Game:
Primary goal: To capture all of the “rocks/sticks “before the other team does.
Secondary goal: To pull as many flags off the other team as possible
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ Place balls (Rocks/Sticks) in the center of the gym.
~ Teams touch opposite ends of gym wall until the start whistle.
~ At the whistle both teams attempt to capture Rocks/Sticks and place them on their team mat. Individual players can only capture 1 Rock/Stick at a time and no “doggie paddling” balls backwards.
~ Players must try to steal any Rocks/Sticks that the other team has captured without getting their flag pulled.
~If a players’ flag is pulled then they are “out” and must line up @ the “out zone” and wait to be rescued by a team mate who will bring them a dropped flag……No Line Jumping!!!
~Players are rescued when a teammate picks up a dropped flag and brings it the out zone and hands them a flag. Flags must be given the player in the front of the line.
~If a player is carrying a Rock or flags when their flag is pulled they must drop everything (not throw equipment to a teammate) and head to the “out zone”. Other players can pick up dropped equipment.
~ Players may only carry 1 Rock at a time, but as many dropped flags as they want.
~Players may not step on, move, or kick dropped flags.
~Players may not “puppy guard” their mats. They can only be in the Key for 3 seconds.
~ No stiff arming, flag guarding, hiding flags, holding flags, etc.
~Use Strategy and cooperate with your team.
~Be CAREFUL!!! Pay attention to avoid collisions!!! Have Fun!!
